I lost a whole tank today due to ick and other problems. i remove all the dead fishes. however, i am unsure how to clean the media so that the tank is disease free. Should i change all the medias as they are kinda old as well to make sure that the tank is disease free. i put some methylene blue in the empty tank now and left the filter running. How should i approach it?

Wow - what happened ?

I dont think Ich whiped out your whole tank like that, its not normal. I wouldnt throw all your media ether. Problem is without food (ammonia etc) the bacteria will die anyway.

I would first want to know why it happened ? Do you maintain the tank ? How long had it been running ? Was it overstocked ? things like that, because its unusual for a whipe out over ich.

Did you treat the ich ? What other problems were there ? Do you have a test kit ?

It was a Quarantine 10 gal with 30 guppy fry 1 x pleco. Stats were 0 0 40. Once a week water change 25 %. Pleco got ick and then got skin burn, fin rot after i treated with *half* dose of API's ick cure; Upped tempurature to 30. Then Pleco die. the next morning all guppies died.

My ultimate goal now is to make sure that this tank will be disease free. should i just change 100 % water? And change all medias. As i have a lot of spare medias cloned residing in my main tank.

You should blast the heater for like a week and add salt to make sure the ick is gone... Did you have any other diseases other then the ick?

Sorry for your loss. As little fizz said, salt, heat and my 2 cents water changes.
