Today I came home from work to find my 2 year old catfish, Dyson, had passed away underneath his favourite plant, an amazon sword :byebye: This has probably been the hardest of all my fish deaths as he was a wonderful cleaner, a wonderful fish and has survived EVERYTHING I have thrown at him (unintentionally) whereas other fish have not been so lucky.

For the last few weeks I noticed he was getting a bit thin around the middle despite regular feeds of cucumber/other vegies and algae tabs. Then last week I noticed his bristles were getting very short....I thought he may have been in a fight or something as he wouldn't even chase the other catfish (his children) off the vegies I feed him. He would suck on anything I gave him but without the usual vigour that he used to display. I couldn't put my finger on it but he didn't seem quite right :(

He had a girlfriend, Electra, who I moved to the 75gal several months ago due to the overabundance of fry. He fathered many fry the majority of whom are now adults in the 75gal (mostly males but a few females).....

He will be missed :byebye:

aww :rip:

Thats a real shame. With a sunken stomache it could have been an internal bacterial infection or parasites. However the bristles getting short is an odd one.

2 years isnt a particularly long life for a plec. Bristlenose and most other plecs live to 10 years quite easily... :(
