I have a 120g tank and recently it became a bit of a mess. I hadn't done a water change in a long time because I thought the tank was fine (nitrates were at 20'ish and everything was looking great), and then I realized that having water stagnate is bad because it will begin to lose its buffer capability, will turn acidic quickly, etc etc etc. Right about when I learned this, the tank started to 'crash'. My plecos were all gasping for air, and a lot of the fish were stressing out. I did 2 water changes and it seemed to sort things out. A bit later, one of my 4 angels died. In the whole process of this, many of my clams are now opened shlels.. I think meaning they died or were weakened, and then were eaten.

Today I did a water change, it'd been about 2 weeks since this disaster. I changed less than normal, about 20 gallons, and an hour or two later both of my bala sharks died due to swim bladder infection. I'm thinking that the pH may have been low still, or became low again, and that this new water perhaps pulled it up at a fast rate? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Also, a while ago I had a bala die from swim bladder as well.. I'm not sure where this fits into the timeline.

When fish are kept in improper conditions and stressed due to poor water quality then they will become prone and susceptable to disease. Regular water changes are a must in a healthy, stable enviroment. Are you sure it was swim bladder?...I'd keep an eye open for other signs of disease in your tank. Wierd that both would die at same time of the same disease :dunno: Sorry to hear about your bala's...
