Hi there,

First post here :)

After waking to a dead platy, i noticed yesterday afternoon that my fish were acting strangely and decided to do a 30% water and filter change just incase.

At about 5PM i looked a bit closer and realised it was actually white spot (looks like grains of salt)

Anyway, due to the time all the local aquariums and pet shops were closed so i couldn't get hold of any treatment, and woke to all 6 of my black neon tetras dead :(

Anyway... just wondering 2 things:

1. How did this happen? I bought some new plants and 2 new platy's last Friday - so 8 days earlier - could it be that my local aquarium gave it me?
2. Is there is any other treatments i should keep in stock incase?

Thanks!

Jon.

Most def whitespot if you saw little "white spots" on the fish. Most definatly from the new platy's. All common fish like platy's, mollies, guppies will all easily get sick in an lfs so whenever you buy them, you should keep them in a quarentine tank for two to three weeks before adding them to your main tank to make sure they don't have any diseases :good:

For the meds, keep a med for whitespot and some melafix for any bacterial infection that may arise. whitespot and some common bacterial infections are the most common types of sickness I have found

gawd i feel so angry, 2 of my rummys aren't looking too good now

That sucks, I'm sorry you lost so many of your fish, I hope the others are going to be ok.

Just raising the temperature wont get rid of the ICK but it will definately help. That coupled with the treatment should make it go away pretty soon. It's a horrible disease and is a good reminder to all to get a QT tank of some kind.

Hi there,

I've just upped the temperature so hopefully it'll go soon.

What is a QT tank?

Thanks,

Jon.

aswell as raising the temp i found raising the airation to help as well as the meds, methylene blue is good if your in the UK, treats: slime disease, flukes, white spot, velvet and fungus :good:
