Hey guys, I am at wits end with our 55 gallon tank. In the past few months we have lost 4 fish to weird reasons, but the last one I can't explain, so maybe someone who has experienced this can help. In the past 4 months we have lost a maroon clown to getting stuck in a small opening in our sump, we have had a Raccoon butterfly die from ich and not eat, a lionfish who seemed healthy as hell, jump out of the tank while on vacation (luckily the cats didn't investigate) and now the most disturbing, our juvinile pacific blue tang magically disappeared this last monday. He was super healthy, always eating, picking at live rock and other things around the tank. We came home from work and started cleaning algea and he was gone. Searched every corner of the tank and outside the tank, and he just vanished.. Now when the other fish have died, it took a little while before the bahamma star came to them and tried eating them, but there was nothing happening..So is it even possible for small blue legged hermit crabs or that star to competely wipe out any evidence that the fish was in the tank? Also water parameters are fine, just did a 30% water change the week before (30% every 2 weeks) and the cherub angel and chromis are just fine..So what could of happened??? I don't think a mantis is in the tank, we would have known by now?? We are seriously thinking of downgrading the tank to Freshwater. I use the same water and salt mixture on my 29 gallon and no issues in that tank...

have you searched in cracks in the rock or between pieces as the tang may have lodged itself in the rock.

Yah I looked all over... Couldn't find anything...There are really no predators in the tank, except maybe a pom-pom crab, Bahamma star, and hermit crabs/snails...

The pom pom crab shouldn't take live fish the size of your tang and nor should the star - both are fairly peaceful towards fish. However they would make short work of a dead tang - would be gone in hours especially as you have hermits as well.

what are all your stats, including SG, Ph, temp, etc?

Don't loose faith, I'm sure someone will come up with an answer :good:
