I got some brown khuli loaches from petsmart last week. i made sure to set up a quarantine tank for them..because i don't expect much from petsmart at all, i just can't find khulis anywhere else.

so one of them does not look like he's going to make it. i've been trying to monitor them for signs of illness but it's difficult as they don't come out much, and aren't big eaters. i've heard they aren't particularly big eaters from other people also so i don't think it's just mine.

symptoms:
laying on his side right now. very heavy rapid breathing. on his stomache there is some red blotches. his anus is also red. don't know anything about stool..except that when i got them, i saw some white stringy stuff in the bag that didn't look too healthy. didn't know if i should consider it to be disease or something..or just that they weren't properly cared for at petsmart and probably haven't ate much.
also 1 of them has been more reculisive than the others..it's tough to say which one..but when i have seen them out and about, and eating, it's usually 2, although all 3 have been out at the same time before.

I'm not really expecting to save this one. just wondering what it might be. and if i should treat the others/whole tank for something. frankly...i still have around a week in their guarantee..so i don't know if i'd be willing to pay the money for the medication. don't mean to be cruel..but that stuff can be a little costly, doesn't always work anyways, and i knew going into this that the fish probably won't be in the best health.

White stringy poo can signify an internal parasitc infection. TBH I have found that when my fish have had parasitic infections nothing I do can save them.

They might also be constipated if they havent pooped, try feeding them some peas or a slice of zuchinni to get hings going again in that department.

Maybe Wilder will have some ideas of things you can try.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Waer stats in ammonia, nitrite, and ph.

The red blotches are they beneath the skin.
it could be bacterial but need to ask more questions.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas on body or gills, darting.
Does he look thin or bloated.
Does his stomach look sunken in.
What do you feed the fish.
