Hi, was in my LFS today looking at bolivian rams. I was reading the ticket and it said best to be kept in groups. I have a roma 200 tank with. 6 sterbai corys, 7 tetras, 11 platys and 1 BN plec. I was looking at buying 2 or 3. any advice would be good and as well as what to look out for. as may go back tomorrow for a better look.

Many Thanks.

I think most people try to keep them as a pair (male/female) or a trio (male/2 female). I've never heard the recommendation of a group for Bolivian rams, but it might be really nice. I have a male/female pair that have done fine for a year now. You could certainly do 2 pairs in your tank given the size. They can be difficult to sex so you could start with 6 and wait for some pairs to form.

They go well as a pair or in groups, but I wouldn't have thought a trio with 2 females would go too well. If the male paired off with 1 of the females, the other might get bullied. I'd go for a pair or larger group.

Sexing isn't too difficult if they're mature, but in younger ones it is quite hard. Males have longer, pointier fins, plus the breeding tube is easy to spot on mature females normally.

I've got 3 Bolivians in my tank and they do really well as a trio, pretty sure I've got a 1 male and 2 females and they seem fine.
