in my 29 gal i was trying to have neons. i had 3 left one night. the next morning they were fine. about 30 min i went back to the tank and i saw the tail of a neon sticking out of the mouth of one of my bolivian rams  then i noticed another dead with eyeballs missing. ive been told my angel may eat the neons but right now hes only about 3 inches from the tip of the nose to the begining of the tail. from what ive seen around here my angel would sell for around 5 bucks based on his size.

so ive given up on having neons in this tank and want an idea for something to have in there

right now i have 1 angel, 2 bolivian rams, 2 albino corries, 3 paleateus(SP) corries, 7 ottos, 7 glo lites(3 are albino). ive been told ill be fine with stocking if i had 7 neons too as i had planned. is there anything i can put in there inplace of the neons that would look nice? would cardinals work or is it a similar problem? maybe i should just increase the number of glo lites?

any ideas will be appreciated.

Personally I would up the amount of glolights you have in terms of looks as I think a bigger group of one species looks better but it is up to you.

Cardinal tetra are very sensitive and get quite a lot bigger than neons so you might want to bear that in mind.

thanks. i like the look of a big school too but i also liked seeing my neons and glo lites mixing together before the neons started droping off. any else have any suggestions?

well i kinda just impulsed on some cardinals. they were cheap 7 for a little over 11 dollars. i also got 2 german blue rams which i belive are both female.

so in the 29 gal i now have:
1 angel
2 bolivian rams(not sure on sex but i think i have 1 male and 1 female.......not totaly positive though)
2 german blue rams(i belive both are female, both have a pinkish spot on the belly)
7 glo lite(3 albino)
7 cardinals
7 ottos
2 albino corries
and 3 palateous(SP) corries.

is this too many? i change 7.5-10 gals a week and the filter is the standered one that comes with the 29 gal kit.

Do your rams do ok with your corys? I've heard that the rams tend to attack the corys. And is it neons that are an angels natural diet? All this is stuff I believe I have heard and have never experienced as I don't keep any of them but still something to look out for. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. (although incredibly rare, it does happen sometimes. :D )

my rams are doing fine with my corries. i thinks its only while breeding that they do become aggressive to the corries but i have plenty of hiding places anyway.

Hi fish_keeper2, I've just finished cycling the tank and I am also looking at getting some cardinal tetras and was wondering how your cardinals were doing? Are they more hardy than the Neons? I had 6 neons but all of them died except one so I'm deciding between adding more Neons or getting cardinals instead.

I'm scared that the neons wont be ready for my tank as it hasnt matured yet.
