Hello,

I'll be setting up a 600L tank next weekend, so about the middle of next week I'll want to order the plants for it.

The plan is to have something like an amazon backwater, so the water will be peat stained. The depth will also be 29", so there will not be a huge amount of light reaching the bottom.

I will be lighting with 4x T5's, using marine white and grow-light tubes.

What I'm looking for is some plants that I can use that can cope without needing huge quantities of light. The tank will be realaatively well lit, but will definately not be at the 2w/gallon level, probably between 1-1.5 watts.

Could someone suggest some species that might work well? I'm looking for tall plants, broadleaves plants and interesting plants.

For those that have them, please could you let me know the english names, as well as the latin.

Many thanks to anyone who can provide help.

Steve

Echinodorus species (Amazon swords) should do well and will fit in with your Amazon backwater theme. A nutrient-rich substrate will encourage growth considerably as they obtain a lot of their from their roots.

Cryptocoryne species (crypts) will also be suitable with similar nutrients demands. These are generally slower growing and require less maintenance.

Microsorium pteropus and varieties (Java ferns) and mosses are also ideal for attaching to bogwood or other decor.

Good luck with the new setup.
