I have recently got some lampeye killifish and have found that they are very much a "top of the tank" fish. They very rarely go into the bottom half of the tank, even for food. They are also tiny with very small mouths.

Trying some flake food which they are eating but it sinks too quickly for them.

Any recommendations for a good quality food I can get in the UK that will float on the surface or in the water coloum for a good amount of time, and not be too big?

hikari guppy?
top fin pro series color enhancing something tropical fish crumbles
these might have to be smashed for baby guppy but im sure a killifish can handle em

Same as @AbbeysDad, put a very small amount of crushed flake in and let them eat it, then offer a bit more.

You can also try frozen and live foods. Newly hatched brineshrimp will swim around the water for an hour or so before sinking to the bottom. Live daphnia will live in the tank until eaten or sucked into the filter. Micro, grindal and white worms will wiggle about in the water before sinking to the bottom.

Northfin Bug Pro is a sinking granule, but I find that they're so small that when you drop one alone on a still surface they can't break water tension and float for a short while. Really good food too.

I'd look at the Fluval Bug Bites flake food. For sure, it sinks, but it also sticks to the surface for quite a while if allowed to.
Another option would be cube of frozen...that'll float for quite a while and, while it's defrosting, fish'll be pecking at what they can get. Eventually, it'll thaw enough and either sink or break up.
Yet another suggestion would be tablet foods. You could just stick a tablet near the surface...or at any depth, for that matter. I use one from Aquacare that comes with 'Added mealworms'. Yum.

(Tablets stuck to the glass are great for headcounts and for getting a closer view of fish for health check-up, etc.).

Thanks all.

Live food will definitely be a thing. Once I have the tank settled and finished off I'm going to turn one of the cupboards in the stand into a little live culturing area.

Today I readjusted my spray bars to create an area with a little less water movement. The Lampeyes also seem to have really settled in now too and are moving around more of the tank and not swimming off when I go near it. Combination of the two means they fed pretty well today with crushed up flake food.

I have some snails and isopods on order too so once I get them I will be a little less concerned with left over food sitting around in the tank.

Will definitely get some of the stick on tablets as well. Really good to get everything in 1 place and check they are all ok.
