I have been looking for a grass plant for the front of my tank, and i liked the micro sword, but i have never seena full picture of atank using it, so if anyone has used it, can you tell me if youl iked it and how well it help up and show pics if you can? OR if anyone has another suggestion. I want a plant to cover my groun das a carpet, that grows well. I have between 2-2.2 wpg in a 60 gallon tank. I am ordering all sorts of ferts, i have flourite gravel, and i have 20-30ppm of co2. THANKS!

micro sword is a notorius plant to take care of :) 2.5 WPG might not cut it IMO :) how about sagittaria species ?

i have it now and im having a hard time making it thrive in a small 2 gal tank under 23 watts of lighting :) it grows really slow IMO :)

im referring to this micro sword (Lilaeopsis brasiliensis)

I have Lilaeopsis brasiliensis growing in my tank i use 3 WPG and i can testify it grows reeeaaalllly slllooowwwly, it will end up just frustrating you because it takes so long to grow, id try somethng else, and as Kenneth kpe has said i doubt 2.2 WPG would really be sufficient to get it going at any fast rate.

well i would like a grass plant to cover the bottom of my tank, any suggestions (and links or pics?), thanks everyone!

Echinodorus tenellus, Sagittaria natans or platyphylla, Eleocharis acicularis will all grow well in your tank. You may even have success with Glossostigma elantoides.

Just Google any of these species to find out more. For your interest I have Sagittaria platyphylla in my 34G.

thanks gf, i will look them up in a bit (im on my way out ot the bank) but can anyone supply a picture of any of these in thier tanks?

does sagittaria natans float? i looked it up and it said it does. I think the plant is gorgeous (wish i cuold see it in an aquarium) but i want it as a forreground plant, not a floater

OK I NEED INFO!

i went and looked through my ordering book at work of plants and went through it 10 times or more, and i have found a few plants i really like, and i need opinions on if it owuld work in my tank! I found 3 plants for my foreground, actually kinda 4, and there was another but i think it looks unclean, it was the hairgrass. If anyone knows anything about any of these please tell me, because my manger will be ordering them on monday! The hairgrass is included. Also pics owuld be appreciated!

The plants are:

Micro Sword - Lilaeopsis Novae
Dwarf Subulata/Sagittaria - Sagittaria Subulata
Water Pine - Lycopodium Spp.

and the extra 4th one that i like and would be for foreground decoratiion not a grass, unless it is easy to do, is....

Anubius Nana
- Anubius Nana

so if anyone can help, please do!

I just planted my tank and used sagitarria subulata in the foreground. I was planning on using riccia in frnot of it, but I think I'll just extend the dwarf sag and have it entirely covering the foreground.

It's fast growing, and grows well in any light (to the best of my knowledge)

anubias nana: this you tied to wood and it takes hold (similar to java fern). I think it's a lovely plant and I have one in each of my 2 tanks. They are really slow growing.

Micro sword...I'm sure i saw a post recently - someone saying it's not that fast growing. I could be wrong. Do a search on the latin name in this forum...it was like last week I saw it.

Dwarf sagg - isnt that what gf255 has in the front of his tank?

hair grass - I've had no success with this. I found for me that it died as quick as it grew, so never really spread. But I love it when grown successfully.

ok so the sag is a thumnbs up and so is the nana. The micro sword a few people have said is a great plant, (yet i havent seena good pic of it in a tank) but it is sloooooooow growing. The hairgrass i never really liked anyways :) So any other options or opinions would be appreciated :)

Actually... i just put in 2 clumps of micro sword, and im gonna add prob a dozen more when my LFS gets em in...
I know they are slow, but i want slow in my foreground...
I just like the way they look, plus im running 3.4 wpg of light..

Ill break em up abit and spread em around more soon too...
