Looking for Filter Intake Guard ideas

I have an Aqueon 20g HOB filter. It is working so well it pulls my floating guppy grass into the intake and I have to remove it daily. Any ideas on making a diy guard to block the guppy grass, but still let plenty of water flow to enter the intake? I’m willing to buy one if there is one out there. Small holes would make the problem worse I think. Looking for a creative idea.

You can try fiber-glass screening. In the usa it is quite cheap; the biggest issue is how to fasten it - and it has been a while since i used one - conversely you can try 5 or 10 ppi sponge blob which is quite porus.

If you have a local hardware store you can buy a much smaller piece of less.
