Im going to start adding plants to my new setup, i was looking for suggestions for some very fast growers to try and outdo the algae, im running 3 watts per gallon and using co2 (will be when some plants go in) there are no plants in the tank as yet........help would be appreciated........thanks :)

You can't beat Hygrophila species IMO. Particularly difformis and polysperma. I have these growing like mad at present after a strip-down of my 34G.

In addition to what gf said. I have found Egeria Densa and Red Ludwigia excellent in a newly planted set up.

Good luck!

Cheers guys thanks for the replys :)

Yeah gf225 i was looking at your new planted setup (looking HOT, btw) the picture of the surface pearling was excellent, anyway i took on board the plants you had planted and went looking this afternoon for something similar or the same just to get things going, i knew it was going to be difficult to find decent plants as most of the stores here only have the usual, vallis and more vallis (but i did buy 2 of those as well :D )

Anyway heres what i ended up with with absolutly nothing on the list that i started out with, after visiting 4 of probably the best shops here for plants (which are all dismal, by and large, excellent for fish but not for plants)

2 Echinodorus bleheri (paniculatus) medium sized with nice shoots coming of the stems which i will cut off and plant seperatly.

2 Echinodorus palaefolius var (latifolius)

1 Anubias barteri var. barteri ( not ideal, slow grower, but nice plant )

2 Lilaeopsis brasiliensis ( a type of hairgrass for the foreground )

2 Vallis natans. These 2 could probably be split into 6

Not an ideal collection but it will get me going, i will try another couple of shops early next week for more fast growers, but hard to come by around these parts.

Unfortunatly none of the online aquatic plant places will ship to Ireland, they will import them from the far east but wont ship to Ireland :(

But if anybody knows any that will, please let me know, it would solve a lot of my problems as i know im going to have difficulty sourceing plants on an ongoing basis, and dont want to end up with a vallis planted tank :p

Cheers gf and iggy for replying, ill keep looking and hopefully post some pics when i make some progress.
