im setting up a shrimp tank and want to fill it with easy to care for live plants. im not running co2 and am using the standard bulbs in a aquaone ar620. just looking for a mix of tall, medium and foreground plants.

many thanks

What is the size of the tank? Don't know UK brands well. What kind of bulb is it?

When I looked his tank up on google it said 90L and 2 x 18 W lighting. So...about 24 gallons and 36 watts total equaling 1.5 wpg.

its a 2ft wide tank thats about 17 inches tall so its a decent size for shrimp. and as stated below 2 x 18w bulbs giving roughly 1.5 watt per gallon.

sorry i should have put this in the original post

it will contain lots of shrimp and maybe a small group of corys.

my pH is about 7.5 and the water is medium/hard.

well, your looking at the usual mate.

Anubias
Java fern
Bolbitis
Mosses

you might get away with:

Echinodorus
Vallis
Crypts.

but those three like some ferts. if you can get some easy carbo and TPN+ they will thank you for it. shrimp will be fine as long as you dont triple dose or anything silly!

if you dont want to do that, get yourself a nutritious substrate. JBL aquabasis is cheap as chips and is the best substrate i have used! it was really good and im wishing i used it in my 4x2x2. EC has been terrible. JBL will need capping though, either some small grina gravel or perhaps some akadama... (DRL of course)
JBL manado is their new 'ish' substrate. but its really light and gets blown about quite alot. whilst it will hold the plants your after, finer things like stems just lift out of it.
