So right now I have a nice 46 G aquarium set up for the past 3-4 months and it's going really fine..
I'm starting to think I'd like to add a new fish in there, a big fish, probably the size of my pearl gourami..

Right now it's contents are:
13 Rummy Nose tetras
10 Celestial pearl Danios
9 Pygmy Corydoras
1 Pearl Gourami
4 Nerites
6 Ammanos.

I'm thinking there is not enough colors in there, I do have a lot of plants and I check my water frequently, did a test a few weeks ago, two weeks without water changes and no nitrates after..
My water change schedule is one per week 20%.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I was thinking of getting another Pearl Gourami for my male, but I heard they can become territorial once they are in reproduction mode..

So maybe something else that could live with all of those?

Cheers!

What filtering equipment are you running? Personally, I would do larger water changes per week. II don't know if you have much more room? You've got three good sized schools already. You'd also have to find something for the middle level because you don't want anybody to pick on the little Cory cats and you don't want a new fish to be potentially bullied by the gourami.

Well, I have an aquaclear 70 HOB filter..
I don't know why you are telling me I need larger water changes as my water quality is top notch.
I tried to skip a water change last month, making it 2 weeks without any water changes, tested my water, 0 Ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates.
Everybody was doing fine..
Well with what you said, middle level being full already and top being owned by the Gourami.. It doesn't leave me with any choice.
I guess I'll have to let it be.

Larger water changes just allow fresher water. It's always nice to refresh it, though usually it helps with nitrates. Are you heavily planted then?

Perhaps if you want a splash of color, maybe you could try for some reddish plants? Or perhaps some bee shrimp? I dunno. Maybe others will have differing opinions than my own.

I am indeed heavily planted, all low light plants tho so red plants are not really a solution..
I've tried Hygrophilia Rosavernig but they grow green, and my rotala indica is also green...

I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps you could swap your current gourami for another more colorful one if you aren't attached to it, but that seems kind of... Rude, to say the least.

I am very attached to the Gourami, and it is really colorfull.. :\
I'll think this through.. I have been thinking of swapping my CPDs ... and adding something else.. well see.
