Hello thar!

First post! Be kind ;).

I used to raise guppies for 3 years and before that I had a tank of various fish for 2 years (With dimensions 42" by 9" by 9", no idea what that is in litres).
I was only 10~15ish when I had these (all tropical) and I really want to get back into the hobby by breeding fish again. I'm 18 now and only have 6 months before Uni' though, it's a shame.

Aside from the obvious "Don't do it", does anyone have advice on who type of fish and how big a tank I should get if I wanted to start breeding again?
I'd love to try breeding Bettas but they are mean to other fish. Also I remember that they would eat any fry from Mollies or Guppies.
If I was to breed Betta could I use the fry of Guppies for food to make my fish healthier? (I hear your pitchforks and torches being readied for a lynch mobbing already!).

I'm not too bothered about the appearance of the fish; I seldom had any real "stunners" with my old guppies. Blue with a leopard tail was the best I ever got, some had greenish tints. Betta colours are amazing though. Mollies are easy my dad says (he raised salt water tropical for a long time).
I know about the nitrates/nitrites etc... Don’t worry about that. I could do with a cheap and quiet filter/pump/heater though and lighting suggestions since it will be in my bedroom and near my bed if I do have a tank.
I live on the Isle of Wight (South U.K).

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm planning 2 tanks. Therefore Betta wouldn't have chance to kill eachother (hopefully!).
I could also revive my old large 42" tank, it still even has the original gravel (although this would do the fish more harm than good wouldn't it given the near 4 year gap?)
Edit again: I made a hash of this, I also meant that Guppys and Betta wouldn't share a tank! Must sleeeeeep..... 1:30am. First day back at 6th form tomorrow though, gah!

Fish shop bacteria. If the Kleen Off is pure ammonia, you can make it work too.

Bettas are hard work but very rewarding. The biggest problem is the jarring :S Guppy fry as food won't work as bettas are unbelievably tiny when they're young. They couldn't handle a guppy fry until they're around two months old.

You can set up food cultures and have no worries though.
