Hi all,

I recently set up a new 200l tank with the intention of housing some nice discus but i have now decided against this species because of the work involved. so now i am looking for some nice, colourful, placid bigger fish.

My tank, at the moment, has many small fish (guppies, tetras, corys, dwarf gourami and glass catfish) but it looks too busy . What i would like to do is put in some bigger fish to help focus the eye a little.

Can you recommend some for me?

As a relative new comer to fish i don't want to make a mistake and find all my smaller fish eaten or my plants shreaded!

ANY HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRIECIATED. Many thanks

Jon

U cant keep any big fish in your tank if u want to keep these fish your tank. Guppies... etc. You should remove them and then stock the tank again.

not nescessarily true at all! there are plenty of bigger fish who would be fine with small ones, i'm also not sure the OP is talking about putting all these fish into the 200l tank, sounds to me like the it's a second tank he's setting up.

how deep is the tank, if it's over 18" i would do 4/6 silver banded angels, a nice big shoal of congo tetra's and a nice big shoal of cories.

i suspect in your existing tank you have a bit of noah's ark syndrome, a couple of everything and it all looks a bit mis matched?

less is mroe in species selection, for a truly stunning tank choose only 2/3 species, get large groups of them and stick to the same colour morphs. it may sound boring but trust me it will look much more beautiful and elegant :good:

Rainbow cichlids (herotilapia multispinosa) - make great community fish as they're very peaceful, but get to 4-5" - and are truly beautiful (can you tell I love mine - and want more?) :D

Sorry , i should have made myself clearer.

I have only the one tank...200L with a eheim 2126 thermo.

The fish i have at the mo were inherited from my old tank.

At the moment i have:

14 Lemon tetra
4 male guppies
4 dwarf gourami
3 glass/ghost catfish
5 balloon mollies
4 cories
1 bristlenose

The only fish i really want to keep are the bristlenose and the dwarf gourami

As you can see it is a real mish-mash and too busy too look at hence the need to get it organized!
