hi guys, i'm looking for a new external filter for a 60l tank, i want it to have the heater built in and an adjustable flow rate, the tank will be a breeding tank for rams so i need to be able to cover the inlet with a sponge etc.
Do you have any suggestions with feedback on quality etc, thankyou, D.

For a 60l external, I would suggest looking at the hydor prime10. I think its great and have been using mine without issues for 8 mths now. Inlet n outlet have taps which u can close off to reduce flow. Its not got built in heater, but I use a hydor eth in line heater for thank. temps stay rock solid. If you don't mind internal, look at the hydor ekip line. this has built in filter/heater n space for mediam- maybe not ideal for fry as they may end up sucked in.
If you hadn't guessed, I like n trust hydor. just my 2p worth.

hydor are a trusted brand...

Also try eheim 'classic' canister filters... they have stood the tes of time and are better made than many other modern brands... i'm going back to them after trying both fluval and tetra-tec canisters.

You can get them brand new for peanuts on ebay.

no built in heater though... but would would with the external heater mentioned above...

a word to the wise though - if your heater and filter are linked, your entire life-support goes AWOL if something happens to stop the filter working.

I agree with Eheim. And would suggest a Classic 2213.

I also agree with the last comment and would definitely not have a combined system. It's so much more difficult to monitor and the fact that if one fails, both do. Not good.
