Could anyone here post a pic of their java fern or very smoothed/large leafed plants (good for fry to hide in) that are VERY common in LFS in the U.S

Large leafed plants are not good for fry to hide in... they are easy to catch that way. Anyway a good broadleaf plant is the amazon sword. I have a nice big one in my tank that is growing beautifully. I also have 2-3 java ferns.

Yes, I would be better pff but i will have to order those. can anyone give me a good PICTURE of a good pant for fry b sides java moss ???

not if its a plant that's very fussy about water params and needs loads of fertiliser and fery intense light. :)

But generally any plants that I buy at my lfs will be okay in just gravel right ?
As clutterydrawer says, if its a plant that's very fussy about water quality and one that needs a lot of nutrients and high light levels then no :/ .
More than likely your LFS will stock a variety of different plants with different requirements, just like fish. You need to either get plants suited to your tank conditions or change those conditions. The same as with fish, if you buy plants that aren't suited to your tank conditions they will die and make a mess of your tank (and wallet :) )

Have a look at this site here which should give you an idea as to the requirements for different plants, how fast they grow, pH levels, light levels, etc.

HTH

Example from Tropica website:

Family Araceae

Continent Africa

Region Africa

Country of origin Cameroun

Height 5-15 cm

Width 8+ cm

Light requirements very low-medium

Temperature 20-30 °C

Hardness tolerance very soft-very hard

pH tolerance 5,5-9

Growth very slow

Demands very easy

This means that the plant doesn't need lots of light, doesn't care about temp, hardness or pH & grows slow - therefore is very undemanding and easy to keep.
If all you have is gravel substrate and 'normal' lighting then look for plants with these sort of requirements and you shouldn't go far wrong :)

no.

you need to find out how many watts your light is, and how big your tank is.
