So I'm planning on setting up a 20 gallon freshwater planted tank. It will have a filter that was meant for a 30 gallon tank.
I want the following fish/invertebrates already:
  • 6 Cardinal Tetras
  • 2 Dwarf Gouramis

I was looking for a good fish that was about 3-4" in length. It would be nice if it had an easy or moderate care level. I would like to make the fish the star of the aquarium.(I really just want a fish that's flashy and colorful) Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!! :good: :fish:

Do you have soft or hard water? If it's soft and a low ph, you could consider rams. There are some beautiful ones out there and they are compatible with your other fish.

I think its soft. I looked it up and i found something that said that my areas hardness is 5 grains per gallon.

That's more like moderately hard: http://www.fcwa.org/water/hardness.htm

Your best bet would then be to go for the Bolivian Ram. Have a look at the species index here on the forum under "Central and South American Cichlids" and have a read up. Google will also help. They are peaceful, hardy, have personality and beautiful. They stick to the bottom and will be fine in your water. The dwarf gouramis will be more at the top and the neons will shoal all across the tank, so you'd have a nice mix that covers all areas of the tank. If you decide to get them, you'd need some sort of cave. Either rocks or coconuts or anything similar.

Edit: Here is the link to the index: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/59127-bolivian-ram/
