Looking At Getting Things Ready For My Discus Tank

OK so now my 180l tank is well underway with regards to fishless cycling im looking into getting everything ready for the 240l discus tank.

Its a juwel rio 240 and the filtration is going to be 2 x ex1200 which should be delivered this week. My RO unit was delivered today so im ready to get that tank started once my other has finished its cycle and i can transfer the fish over.

The tank is going to have 6-8 discus and some sterbai corry's. The discus will be in the tank bar bottom for around 6 months and from then i will add the sand and then the corrys. What im wondering is if the way to cycle with RO water is the same as tap water? Once the water has been treated do i just add some equilibrium fill the tank, add ammonia and wait.... ?

Do you really need to waste RO water in the cycle? You'll empty it all out before you add the fish anyway, so I'd just go with normal tap water and fill with RO when you're ready for the fish. The bacteria will grow in the filter just fine

Ahh that sounds like a plan !! So ill be okay to do this? But the water change at the end where i leave 10% water in the tank. Will this be okay to mix with the RO water?

Surely a massive change in KH will send the bacteria dormant?

I see, so i would need to start the cycle with RO water? going to need some serious containers for this? What would you guys recommend?
