Looking After A Gsp

D'you have Maidenhead Aquatics near you? If not, call a few LFSs near you and see if they stock them. Don't let any that don't stock Bactinettes fob you off with any you don't keep refridgerated. It's the only proper live cycling product I think we currently have in this country.

Ok thank you. Just phoned a few Maidenhead shops but they don't have it. An Internet site called Pets in town say they have it is refrigirated. what happens with posting? will this be okay or does it have to be kept at a certain temp as there are none available in Scotland.

It has to be kept between 4-8 degrees C, so if I were going to buy it online I'd phone the stockist and ask how they'd package it - bit of a waste of money otherwise. I would imagine overnight delivery with a cold pack would be fine, and shove it straight in the filter/fridge as soon as it arrives. It's got a relatively short shelf-life - I bought mine yesterday and the BB date is 24/06/08.

Just had another thought - while you're waiting for the Bactinettes or to find a supplier, you could always try something like Kordon Amquel Plus. It removes a whole bunch of chemicals from the water, including nitrite and ammonia and allegedly doesn't harm nitrifying bacteria. I've not used it myself and it would only be a temporary measure until you've got the filter bacteria sorted and cycled, but I'd imagine it'd be extremely useful in a quarantine tank (i.e. not risking harm to your 29g filter) and Kordon is a very good brand name.

Worth a try?
