When I saw my betta at the petstore I thought her stripes were really pretty ^_^ . After getting home and doing some newbie research I learned that her stripes were being cause by stress  . What can I do to make her happy, relaxed and stripe free  .

horizontal stripes are from stress. If you have only just got her shes probably still settling in keep the water nice and clean. Some IAL is good too.

She's just getting used to her new home. Is she housed by herself or in a tank with other fish? Just keep bright lights off of her and noise and commotion to a minimum and she should settle in quickly. But keep in mind that female bettas seem to stress easier than the males do, so don't alarmed if she stripes up once in awhile :good:

My little girl got called humbug for obvious reasons. She stripes if she is worried, but the other day she had vertical stripes...tart!

weird, i can always identify the stripes on my female, is this bad?

dunno I only got one girl...all my boys are macho...well I can think of a couple who arent :hyper: :hyper:

I have 2 in my main tank and get along fine. Some mornings hey have horizontal stripes and other morning vertical stripes.Strange but they go after 5 mnutes.
