Today i returned home to find my Longhorn Cowfish stuck on the intake of one of the blowers. he could have been stuck there for up to 5 hours. His eye is swollen and cloudy, his scales are rough on the one side, he won't eat, and now he just kind of floats around a few inches off of the tank floor. He doesn't have the swimming power to fight very strong currents so i don't believe he was sick or weakened, once the vacuum got him he never stood a chance. The other fish were acting very aggressively towards him so i isolated him in a breeding unit. I don't really know what to do. Will his eye heal??? How can i encourage him to eat? is there anything i can do to help my little buddy???

My roommate, who knows more about fish than I, says i should euthanize him but i thought I'd ask other people first.

euthanizing is killing the fish to end its suffering. I'm open to the idea but would like to hear advice first.

If it is killing him I am against it. I suggest buying some stress coat plus with aloe vera. It will increase his slime coat covering his rough scales. It will heal skin fins and his eye probably. It will also strengthen his immune system increasing his likeliness to eat. hope it helps. you can normally get it at petco or petsmart.

Thanks for the product advice. I'll pick up a bottle tomorrow. Anyone else have any injured fish advice??

Oh man I posted the dire straits angel and I can tell you Melafix and jungle or tetra Lifeguard together in a QT tank will work MIRACLES! They are both available at Wal-Mart. :good:

Thank you to everyone who posted. Sadly Our longhorn died the evening after the incident.
