Long-Term Tetras Dying Rapidly - Please Help

Thanks for your reply, Harlequins. The colour in the nitite/nitrate test tubes was as pale, if not paler, than the 0.1 Nitrite and 5 Nitrate comparison colours on the colour chart. These are the lowest levels on the charts supplied with the test. Also, the amonia was matching the lowest number on that chart. I can't see how it could be a spike unless there's something I'm missing.

Glad you`re feeling a bit better and calmer about things today B-)

It`s possible that the congo`s did bring something into the tank with them but you could ask yourself over and over again and possibly still never know, harsh I know but it`s probably best now to keep up with the testing and water changes whilst keeping a close eye on the fish.

It`s always a risk when someone doesn`t quarantine new fish, I never quarantined new fish until more recently, never even gave it a second thought until I got 2 small female rams who brought whitespot into a big community tank. Needless to say I now quarantine any new fish but it`s a case of lesson learnt and we all go through that :good:

Good daily water changes wouldn`t hurt the beneficial bacteria but if you think your test results are showing that things are ok and you needn`t do daily changes then that`s up to you. I would still encourage at least 2 good water changes a week if not daily ones.

Time will tell, hopefully things will roll along and you`ll get everything back to stability but do keep asking questions and advice if you feel you need to, we`re a good friendly bunch really :D
