So i live in Tampa, my apartment complex lost power on Sunday afternoon due to the hurricane bringing down a power line and blowing a transformer. It was just restored about 2am last night, it was out for approximately 2 and a half days. During this period the temperature inside the apartment stabilized to match the outside air temperature (in other words, it got REALLY hot and humid inside), i lost all the food in the freezer/fridge. But i am happy to report that it seems my fish survived!
I didn't have time to do a full count this morning, but i didn't see any dead bodies. I'm amazed. I suppose the bacteria in the canister filter were able to keep up with no more water circulation than what is afforded by osmosis, and the plants probably helped as well. I'll do water tests when i get home and see if there is any ammonia/nitrite detectable. At any rate, i am amazed and thrilled, i thought i was going to have to restock! Yay!
