I decided to do a group of male guppies for my tank at work. I didn't want to have to deal with the possibility of being over run w/fry and the tank is 55 gallons, so i figured if there were any hostilities, they'd have enough room to work it out. The first 5 that i put in the tank were good, then i added 3 more, and for some reason, one of the new fish became the target of constant harassment by the other guppies. I kept him in for a few days hoping they'd work it out, but it didn't seem to be getting any better, so i took him home and put him in my 30 gallon. I have two questions:

1. Any ideas on why this fish became a target and is this normal behavior among male guppies?
2. Will the tormented guppy be content as the only guppy in my 30 gallon, or would it be better to take him back to the fish store?

Thanks!

As long as you have some other fish in there (which you do if it's the thirty from your sig) than he should be fine. I have a lone female in my thirty with just a bristlenose, male betta and 2 ghost shrimp, and she's was much happier after I added the betta.

Yes, it's the 30 gallon in my sig.
