I had to euthanase my bent swordy yesterday (she couldn't swim, eat or escape from the other fish attacking her)....she was in the 6gal with a betta and another swordy (male)....

The betta is perfectly happy still.....the male swordy seems lonely.....he is eating fine and all and isn't sick but kinda looks sad....does that make sense?

I am thinking of moving him to my 30gal where he will have company in the way of swordies and platies.... which will leave the betta alone..I can't imagine he will get lonely...

Opinions please.....

yeh maybe you should move him to the 30.wouldnt you be sad if your bf left ya?

I'd move him, I had one male that died a week after his special lady friend died having babies. He just pined away, it was very sad. I think they do better if they have other swordies to play with.

I reckon fish get lonely, its funny, my two pearl gouramis are more active now i have another 3. Goodluck :D

Yes, I think that fish can become lonely, especially those that are used to the company of their own kind. Not in the same way that humans experience it, more of a comfort level thing. I would move him too.

Agreed. I had two glass cats and one died. The other began to hang out in the back corner near the power filter all day. I found two glass cats at the lfs and added them in. The three and now in the middle of the tank, halfway up just undulating in the stream. Pretty clear that the third is 'happier' now. SH

I have decided to leave him where he is and get another swordy mate for him. I realise last night the reason why he is in the 6gal. He is a jumper. The 6 gal is all enclosed whereas the 30gal has a space at the back for the filters etc. When he was in there he jumped MANY times....just lucky I happened to be there to rescue him !!!

YIPPEE!!!!! LFS trip here I come :D

I have the opposite problem; a gourami that's completely terrified of any member of his own species. He does seem to like the company of my Blood Parrot, though.
