Hey guys, I already made a thread in the Old World forum, http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...p;#entry1811383 and based on the advice have decided to widen my search into American cichlids.

Basically I'm looking for a medium sized (3-6") cichlid I can successfully keep in an 80L tank, which has a 2sq. ft. footprint.

Any ideas and suggestions would be good as I'm a bit useless when it comes to cichlids (but especially new world), so any help would be good :)

There's a picture of the tank in it's current state in the other thread :good:

ok, if it is a single fish you are after i would look at one of the following

1 sajica or 1 rainbow will definitely be fine IMO
1 convict or 1 Firemouth is also a possibility.

These fish will all max out at around 6"

as said on the other thread there are many types of dwarf cichlids that would be fine in this tank too.

I don't agree with the firemouth suggestion, the others are smaller around 5", than the 6" firemouth.

What can you get locally?

Yeah I wouldn't put a firemouth in there, I don't like them that much anyway :p

The new guy at work breeds a lot so I'm getting a small flameback to put in there tomorrow as well. But locally I can't get very many Americans other than the large guys (oscars, red devils, JD's, chocolates etc.) but there's always convicts around so I might look into them; I'll have to travel a bit further out to try and find some more Americans but I'm positive there's plenty around.
