I went to London on Wednesday and I was really excited about going to the London Aquarium.

It was quite expensive to get in, but I thought it'd be worth it. So we started walking around and it was coldwater ponds to begin with. Nothing truly exciting. There were some quite large koi kept in a small tank, though.

Then it was marines. God, this bit went on forever. About 2/3 of the whole attraction was marines. I know diddly squit about marines, so I couldn't find any problems. There were some really nice displays. There were some plastic jellyfish in a round tank and this couple were staring at them, thinking they were real which was really funny.

Then came the tropicals. I was so disappointed with this. They had a shrimp tank with "ghost shrimp" and "bee shrimp", apparently. All I saw were amano shrimp and cherry shrimp. Then there were some dwarf puffers in a community tank, and the tankmates looked really scrappy. :( Then there was a huuuge tank with 5 redtail catfish, a huuuge shoal of silver dollars, a few bala sharks, some clownloaches, and a silver aro. It was a very large tank, but only because it was so tall. The foot print was tiny, one of the RTC had to go on a slant to get on the floor. Also, the aro was very weird shaped.... very deep bodied but not very long, with bulging eyes.

Then there was a brackish section, with a large tank with anableeps and mollies and mudskippers in. Some twits were poking the mudskippers thinking it was hilarious to poke them into holes on a rock.

Then there was a mangrove with scats, monos, archers and... green terrors?! Never knew they were brackish.

Alot of tanks also had fish that weren't labelled, or labels with no fish. So in all, a rather disappointing attraction :(

Hey if you ever come to the states or live(I don't know where you live) try going to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago!, They have alot of tropical fish about 3/4 and its very nice. It can get crowded but they have awsome exhibits and rare species.

When I went, most of the tanks had whitespot :(

Are you talking about the Shedd or London aquarium?

The london Aquarium is crap for anything other than marines, to be honest you would have been better off coming to se my fishhouse

and things will never be any good if you walk into somewhere with that kind of attitude.

Its only London, Which in most parts is a craphole anyway.... Not suprising really...

lol, that's rich coming from someone living in Billlericay, Essex.

Most public aquariums are pretty poor once you keep fish properly, I know the Portsmouth one really annoys me because all the 'rock' and 'coral' in the marine tanks (except a couple) are really, really poorly painted plastic. And last time I went the only FW tank they had was piranhas and a few plecs, which aren't exactly interest central.

Thats what happens when people havent got a clue about fish come to find work there and mess up. I went there a year ago and it stank the fish were ill and it was just boring after a while. The best part was the tiny tropical section.

But have I lived here most my life....NO, so get your facts straight before commenting about me

With the amount of money public aquariums charge you to get in, and the amount of people who actually go in, you would think they could come up with something better...Meh

I didn't walk in there with that attitude. When you notice that there are problems, you start to pick up on more of them.

Yeah, i thought that too. Two adults and one student was just over £30.

I think my biggest disappointment was when I went to the Georgia aquarium. They have good Ideas but I don't think its that great. Its the place with the Whale Sharks and ya it was awsome to see them but I've been reading reports and there's are slowly dieing " They already lost 2or 3 out of 6 if I remember. I was also hoping that there tanks would look awsome and they where built by Home Depot( which is a hardware company for those who don't know) and to be honest it looked like a giant swimming pool, nothing interesting. Plus I talk to a guy after he was done with with annoucing what some fish where and that there endangered, etc and he wasn't a jerk but ask him some questions about the Whale sharks and he was kinda snotty with me. They had some good exihebits though but nothing special from any other aquarium also they had this cool reserved dining rooms where you could have a party and look out at the Whale sharks or even Belugas, "Not in the same tank". All though they had there problems most of there fish have that infection where there so stressed there scales start coming out. My mom loved and I kinda liked it since I got to see some whale sharks but out of my rating I give it a best 3 out of 5.

I agree with you here, the portsmouth sealife centre is well not worth going near most of the local lfs have better marine and fw displays. atleist if its summer you can have a nice stroll along Southsea.
