Lolita the killer whale dead at 57

You obviously think whales being held captive is a good thing. Ok.

It's not a good thing. Captive whales get captured in the wild for our entertainment in marine parks.

That’s why it’s a day to celebrate whenever the trauma ends, by whatever means. The end of a captive whale’s life is a time for celebration. It’s finally free from the subhumans that held it captive.

Oh, okay.
You're young. As you go through your teens you develop an instinct for things being wrong, even if society seems to be saying it's ok.

When I was maybe 21, I had an opportunity to swim with dolphins. Peers were doing it and were encouraging me to. I couldnt articulate why but it didn't feel ethical. I was a little tempted, I love dolphins and swimming, but the interaction would be fake and cruel - I could have a photo of a dolphin kissing me but I'd know it couldn't swim away because the ocean was netted off, and that it was performing in order to get fed. Far from the immense awe of meeting them in the wild, I would just feel sadness, even grief.

Whales are big, intelligent and social - They deserve an ocean, a family/ pod and a full life. They can live for 80 years.

I know that whales could live long, so what's the lifespan of a dolphin compared to a killer whale?

The article you linked said that Lolita's mother still swims free and is in her 80's.

No, it's somewhat vague. I see you're interested in conservation, is that something you might do as a career?

Orcas are too intelligent to do this to. They almost have a language. They have the most stable family unit in the animal kingdom and that's including humans.
Imagine if someone kidnapped children from their families from all over the world. Then taught those kids how to performance tricks and when they weren't performing, they kept them in a small room with no toys or distractions of any kind. That's what's being done to those Orcas.
