took my female platty out my main community tank as the 2 males in there where harrasing her 24/7 and she wasnt looking good.

so she (along with her 2 remaing babies that are about 4 months old now) went into my empty 4ft tank that was cycling and waiting till i had some cash to stock it.

i knew she was pregnant again and i even knew when she had given birth a few days ago but i could only see 3 baby fish and ive been keeping an eye out for the last 36 hours.

jus had a quick count up now and theres over 12 of the bloody things lol.

wasnt planning on starting a platty tank but i feel tight if i put anything in there that could eat them.

any suggestions?

Lol my livebearers are always breeding. I gave up trying to save them all along time ago. You'd get overrun so quickly. As it is I'm reaching the point that some really need rehoming. Anyone want some endlers or platies?
There's not very much that won't eat platie fry. Even the parents will eat them. It really depends on how much you want them all to survive. The other problem is, once they reach a certain age the brothers will mate with their sisters if they still live together and then comes the problem of inbreeding.
As for the currently almost empty tank it's really up to you what goes in. HAs it been fishless cycled? Before the platies went in I mean. If so then go ahead and stock it with some hardier species to start with. Some fish need mature tanks (More stable enviroments). I've found synos to be hardy beasts but I wouldn't put them in unless the tank is fully cycled.
Not much help am I. Sorry.
Hugs,
P.

well i set the tank up on xmas day with rocks, plants and a filter from my old tanks.

oh and water too.

i dnt have any testing kits at the moment but i guessed it would be fine for the plattys. better that bein harrased neway.

the trouble is i was putting cichlids in this tank rather than having it another community tank.

guess ill have to wait a lil while till they can go bak in my big tank.

maybe get another filter for it too cos it would be a bit overloaded with another 12+ fish.

whats the smallest an LFS will take them at ?

anybody kno?

Hi SamUK :)

Your best bet would be to ask at an independent lfs, not a chain store. For your best deal, ask the owner about trading them for other fish, food, or supplies, instead of cash. Size will depend on what the store usually sells.

Home grown fish are a good deal for you, the lfs and the future owners. Once you can establish a relationship with the store, they will be happy to take your fish because they have been raised in local water and have no problems getting adjusted to their new homes. The hard part is getting started. Once the lfs gets to know that your fish are healthy and raised on good foods, they might be very happy to do business with you regularly if your fish keep spawning. :D

u mean theyll be more :o

*runs away*

no im jus playing. thanx for the advice.

its just a pain cos like i say. this tank was about ready for me to go out malawi cichlid shopping :D

and now i cant :( .

guess ill have to give em a month or 2 and then either give some to my lfs or move them to my big tank where they can fight for themselves.

fry hav survived in there unattended by me so they should be ok by then.
