Fighting is perfectly normal between clown loaches. They're not actually fighting they're just "mock" fighting for fun. This occurs especially around feeding time. Anyway, you can tell the sex from the tail, on males it is more curved (resembling a claw) and on the females it is more straight. Another trait that is harder to distinguish is that males are usually fatter/heavier/thicker than females which are more slender.
