 One of my mature Dojo loaches keeps swimming vertically at the top of the tank releasing powder/waste/stuff some of it is tan, and some is white, so I'm a little confused is this a mating thing? or is it just how they do their "business" it doesn't seem to be frantic by any means while doing it aswell, it seems quite casual and there is alot of it.

Another question (because I've been wanting to ask the first question for a long time but didn't know where to): Is this the right area to be posting about loaches? I figured since they have wiskers they could be considered cat fishy...

Loaches are cyprinids not siluriformes (catfish)

Sorry i dont know the answer to your question but it could be a mating thing.

A lot of fish ingest amounts of inorganic material while feeding, this is frequently passed through the gut and emerges from the anus as "sand". It is said that the majority of that clean white sand tropical beaches are made from once fell out of the anus of a parrot fish!
