ok i think this may be overstocking so tell me if it is. OK so i want three pictus's , a albino krib and a pair of yellow labs and red peacocks. Can i fit a pair of Clown loaches and one very large Common Pleco? Also will the cichlids fight. Also is this overstocking? I'm pretty sure it is but i want confirmation. if not the Plec can i fit the clown loaches at least. I think they are some of th more active bottom dwellers in a large tank. O it is a 55 gallon

Clown loaches should be kept with the same size fish, and you need a 90 gal for these type of fish.

wow it's agoof thing i posted this here than. I was under the impression that they only got to like 5" I guess its a big no on the Loaches. Anyhting on the Common Pleco or cichlids? could I fit a group of ornate pims also? like a group of pictus. A group of Ornates. The plec. and the cichlids. This is probly overstocked right? What about without the ornates.

Hey Fishy.

If you go with the yellow labs and peacocks, both which will do very well in your 55 gallon tank, then I would skip the krib, which, while also a cichlid, is a very different cichlid from an entirely different biotope. Also, a pair of peacocks won't work, as the male will pound on the female, so it's best to either keep just the male, or get at least 2, preferably 3 females. The common pleco will be fine, but IMO pretty overbearing in size for a 55 gallon tank.

What is this Ornate fish? Do you have a latin name? The only ones I know get to well over a foot long.

Like the clown loaches, common plecos grow to 12 inches so aren't the best idea. They are also rather messy fish.

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di....cfm?pCatId=926 This ornate. I kinda changed my mind a little and thought that if i got the pictus's i will only get one Ornate. What is a good big Pleco. Something in the 8-10 inch range. I saw one at my LFS labeled JUmbo Pleco (wats with that?) and it is a ligh t grey with numerous white spots. Anyone have an idea to wat this might be?

Also how many fish can i keep in this tank. I am thinking that they will all be in the 5-8 inch range. They have some pretty cool cichlids at my LFS and i just may get some. I won't know the species name bcuz my dumb lfs gives tank descriptions like assorted cichlids or jumbo pleco. Also they have no idea what they are talking about so i don't ask questions when i buy from them. THe lady tried to convince me to get a nice iredescent shark for my 10 gallon tank and told me that it only grows to the size of the tank. Also i was looking into a nice big free swimming fish. any ideas? something around 8 " Tell me if i am thinking of overstocking this.

Fishy, how many fish you can stock in that tank really depends on what type of fish you are going to keep.

I will warn you that if you randomly buy cichlids without knowing what they are, you will run into trouble. Cichlids have very different behaviors, diets, types of aggression, and aggression levels, and species must be selected for compatibility.

It happens that those yellow labs and Peacocks, for example, are very compatable. You can put 6 adult Yellow labs and 4 adult peacocks in that tank without a problem.

yah i don't plan on buying anything at random bcuz my LFs has a very limited stock with nothing interesting so i can find most of what i am looking for. I think the most interesting thing they have is a clown knife fish and even that is easy to id. thx for the advice anyways. anyone got any info on the ornate pims? I only post here bcuz it seem smy computer is allergic to validation letters and this is the only forum i can post in.
