I was wondering if you were to put real plants in a tank with any livebearing fish would they eat the plants and start to destroy the plant?

Livebearers will not eat most plants. You have little to no chance that they will eat your plants.

What plants were you looking into getting? Plants are a whole other issue. What kind of lighting do you have in your tank? Salt is a big no no if you want plants. How large is your tank? There are some great choices if you want to put live plants into your tank, but you don't want to do a lot of fertilizing or maintenance. Let us know what you're trying to acheive and maybe we can help.

When you first buy plants they usually die off and then regrow as they settle in, however any soft dead plants all fish will nibble at.

So if you see them eating it it's not fresh live plant matter their eating but the old stuff, and if you see then nibbling at the fresh stuff that coz they still find some food on it like small alga's and possible zooplankton's.

Well first off this going to be a new tank i am going to set up here, and i don't have the plans completed yet so i'm not exactley sure what plants i am going to put in there, but what i do know i will have platies, and swords in there and possibly some guppies and mabey mollies, it's going to be all livebearing fish tank. Plants i i might add that i am thinking about adding to it wil be jave fern or moss mabey and ludwigia. I don't know much about aquatic plants but i did start reading up on it with a book a bought recently on aquatic plants. If anyone has any idea of what kind of plants i could add with these guys
