Hi ,
I am new to this hobby. A couple of days back i got a 24G aquapod. Its been a week since I set it up and the tank is still cycling. I saw some strange behaviour this morning, I can see the live sand turning yellow and also some of the live rocks are turning green. Is that algae / Slime ? I am kind of confused and need some help here . Is it normal to have it in early stages ?
What is the remedy ?

Is it a freshwater tank or a saltwater tank?? It sounds like algae to me that is forming on the rocks. As for the sand i'm not quite sure. How long do you leave the light on in a days time?

I am sorry for the confusion. I have a salt water tank.

I leave the lights on for about 6 hrs ( 4 to 10 pm )

Hiya you may be better posting in the saltwater section further down :good:

When a saltwater tank cycles the first sign you are ready to start adding a clean up crew (CUC) is the apprearance of diatoms on your substrate. This usually looks like a brown colouring on your sand. This is a good sign. You need to test your water and see how the cycle is doing, sounds like you could be pretty much there!

The green growth on your rocks is probably just the life on your live rocks starting to grow. You don't have your lights on for long so it's unlikely to be a major algae growth. You may find it useful to add a phosphate remover such as Rowaphos now before algae gets chance to take hold (if you haven't already added it)

If you post this in the saltwater section have the tank size and equipment specifications at hand as it will be the first thing you are asked for :good: Ooh and take some photo's!!!

Have you just put ordinary tap water into the tank or have you used 'RO' water.

I think it sounds like an alge bloom from tap water being used.
