Is it better to buy live rock cured or uncured?

Buying it cured is definitely better, it won't have to be cured and will be ready to go. but it is also considerably more expensive, and some of the life forms that came in on it may be taken off by the LFS so you can't have them, a little detracted value there. :/

ok.. Ive decided to buy 20kg of the stuff i the box un-cured.. £133.00 includes delivery.. is that cheap lol?

How long should i be curing it for, i`ll be honest it`ll be my 1st time.. so any advice would be nice!! i know need to attach the protein skimmer also heater maybe.. and air stone? and a bio filter? is that sarfice?
thx indvance

wow £133 is cheap where did you get that?

to cure it, bang it in the tank with a couple of powerheads and get the skimmer going and put in a heater and thats basically it. also, it is worthwile getting a litre of live phytoplankton and dumping the lot in as this will get rid of the smell and cure it quicker. it must be live though, not the dead stuff like kent phytoplex.

empty the skimmer daily and leave the lights off for at least 2 months as you will have a massive algal bloom otherwise.

If you've already ordered it how will you be able to select the right bits of Rock? I heard that you should select your rock over time so that you can gather the choicest bit that you will fit in your tank. Are you going to use any base rock. Cheers

either way is fine all in one or bit by bit.

you can getb phytoplankton from most places, I'd go for phyto-aqua which is probably the cheapest. it works out at around £18 a litre or £10 per 500ml
