That depends on what type of plants you are thinking about. Low lighting plants, high lighting. Either way you need about 1-2 WPG for lower lighting and 3-4 for higher lighting plants. If you go above 2 WPG you should think about adding some CO2. The bulb's color temperature should be between 5000K and 6700K. WPG is watts per gallon.
