Hi.I have a selection of plants in my tank, but they dont seem to be doing so well recently.
They are going brownish and limp.
Is it ok to use some sort of liquid plant food for them, and will it harm the fish?
Also,i have an airtube that runs round the bottom of the tank, and it isnt working as well as it used to.
Ive tried taking it out and cleaning it,but it still doesnt work as good as when i first bought it.
Any ideas on how to clean it properly and restore it to how it was?
Many thanks
(the tube is made of rubber i think)

I use Sera Liquid fertilizer. And seems to be doing great. You can get that and others in tablet form also.

I had an airstone in my Tank. People on here told me to take it out as my plants were doing what yours seem to be. I took it out and withind days my Plants were returning to normal.

Use a fertiliser made for aquariums, not a liquid houseplant fertiliser for example. You want a good quality feed, SeaChem, Tetra etc., and dose it lightly. These do not contain nitrates and phosphates which a domestic fertiliser would.

Remember also a lot of plants extract their nutrients through their roots, so a liquid feed will not necessarily help in all cases.

How big is the tank and how much light do you have over it?

i have tetra it doesnt contain nitrates but im gonna check later if it contains phosphates... :D i think it only containts trace elements like iron and pottasium, so i think its okay :D

Just buy a new airhose. It's like 4 cents a foot at my LFS. Actually, I don't bother cleaning any of the filter hoses either; since they are just plain old hosing from the hardware store I generally just replace them.

Ken:

If the stuff is Tetra FloraPride, it's okay.

bingo, tetra florapride

i also have the sera one, florenette, are those two mortal enemies ? sera and tetra ? they seem to make the same of everythin !! and i think they are both roughly the same and roughly the same price haha
florapride - florena
floredepot - initial sticks
and the list goes on and on even the boxes of their water test kits are similar in size haha :D

I had a bottle of Kent plant food and it didnt work very well for me. i would go with the tetra it seems to do a better job.
