I'm just off out to get some brinshrimps and wondered if you have to clean them? in the past i have just put them into a pot and used a pippett to suck them out of their water and straight in to the tank.... should i do this or use tank water to rinse them?

Jake

I have never cleaned them and they didnt do any harm, just be carefull not to get to much of the solution they are in in the tank as it contains salt. :good:

If they are frozen then i always rinse mine in a PLASTIC tea strainer under the cold tap, then add them to a small cup of tank water then feed them to the fish.

I would rinse them in tap because they are in sea water. The salt can harm your fish, and raise your ph

Hey truck, you've always given me good advice, but what the hell is a refractometer?

Sorry to barge on the topic.

Mark.

i device for measuring the refractive index of a liquid which you can then convert into specific gravity to give a salinity reading,

say your tank is 70 litres to change the salinity to something that's noticeable you would need to add 2 litres of brine. so as you can see, 5-10ml (about whats left over) wont harm if it goes in the tank

^ Truck, Im completely aware of that. From what i read, it seemed like the OP was going to dump the bag in. Which, I did once( about 3 years ago, very unwise). It killed my angels, and raised my ph( from 8.4-9.0). So, from what i read, I was trying to make sure they don't do what i did.

lol i used to pour the bag in :S but i rinsed them with tapwater then filled a little pot with tank water and tipped that in....

Cheers for the input guys.

Jake B-) :D
