Hey,

Any recommendations on a breeding box for guppies? We only have a 5 gallon and do not have room for another tank.

Jeff

If you only have 5 gallons to begin with what kind of miracle can anybody come up with to get you a breeder box but still allow sufficient space for the adults to live? Can you replace the 5 gallon with a 10 gallon and then get a breeder box to go with the 10 gallon?

Just put lots of plants in the tank and feed the adults well. Most of the babies will survive if the adults are well fed and there are plants for the little ones to hide in.

Don't waste your time with a breeding trap. They stress the female and aren't worth the money.

What are you planning to do with the fry?
A single female could produce over 300 fry over the next 6 months, even if you separate her from the males. Unless you have homes for them the most humane thing you can do is leave her in the tank and hope that most of the fry get eaten.

When I was a kid in grade school all I had for years was my one little 5 gallon. I raised tons of guppies doing just like Colin said. I had one of those traps that had the V shaped thingy in it and another with the slotted bottom but they weren't that great. I would always wait to put the female in there when I thought she was just about to pop but usually I was too late and there were fry all over the tank. Funny thing is most of them survived by being trapped inside my inside box filter where the others couldn't get to them. That little 5 gallon gave me a lot of fun and a lot of fish back in those good old days of the 1960's.

Coll thanks all.

We only have 2 females and 1 male. We have some plants and structure but I will try to add more.

Cheers!
