If anybody has a Live BBS hatchery going on and can spare some Live BBS I would be very thankful.

Or of someone can let me know of any shop which sells Live BBS that would be great.

I have angel fries who are 5 days old and very soon I will need Live BBS. I have setup a hatchery but as this is my first time I am not sure if I am going to have any success with this. To add to the problem my setup is not perfect either. The problems I have is the eggs used for hatching are from 2002 (got with the tank when I bought it). They look well preserved. I have used common table salt from ASDA (most probably iodized). So given the current situation I dont think I will have any Live BBS at all. It would be a shame to loose the fries as this is the first time I have got it to this stage.

Any help is appreciated.

Most shops don't sell live baby brineshrimp because it isn't a commonly sought after food. Many will carry frozen baby brineshrimp. They do carry adult brineshrimp because they are bigger and most aquarium fish will eat them. Whereas the newly hatched shrimp are tiny and only eaten by small fish like neon tetras and baby livebearers.
Brineshrimp eggs can be bought online or from most petshops. If you have old eggs from 2002 they have probably had it unless they were kept really cold during that time. If you buy some new eggs they should hatch in 1-2 days and be ready for the baby angelfish.
You can use any sort of salt for hatching the eggs but rock salt (swimming pool salt) is the most common stuff used because it is cheap. You can use marine salt if you like but rock salt will work just as well.
I use a 2litre plastic icecream bucket and half fill it with salt water. I use a plastic chamber hyrdometer to get the salt level to seawater strength, (about 1.025SG). Then I add 1/2 level teaspoon of eggs to the water and aerate it with an airstone.
The eggs hatch in 1-2 days depending on temperature. The eggs start off brown and when they have hatched you will see little orange things in the water. These are the baby shrimp. When the eggs have hatched, take the airstone out of the container and wait for 5-10minutes. Then use an eye dropper to suck the baby shrimp out and squirt them into the tank with the baby fish. Once the fish have been fed put the airstone back into the bucket to keep the remaining nauplii (baby shrimp) alive. Start a new batch of eggs every day or two.

I live in Cardiff and I get my Live BBS from Caerphilly Garden Centre which has a section called The Big Blue. Call first though as they run out all the time. BUT they will let you know when they get the next lot in. Email me at seandmc04@hotmail.com if you need a home for the little angels.

Thanks seandmc04.

I will check it out and see if I can get Live BBS from them.

I will let you know if I manage to grow my fries and there are some available to give away.

I will keep you posted.
