list of just general hardy fish

Extremely hardy: Guppies, endlers, platies, swordtails, bettas, danios

Somewhat hardy: Most gouramis, neon tetras (sometimes), cories (in a cycled tank) angelfish (once again in a cycled tank)

The extremely hardy ones are recommended if you are doing a cycle with fish, the lower ones generally do well in a cycled tank.

African Cichlids
Kuhli Loaches (BIG time hardy!)
Plecos
Synodontis catfish (upside-downer included)
Goldfish (duh)
ZEBRA DANIOS! (ya just can't kill 'em!!!!)
Rosy Barbs
Blind Cave Fish
Bettas
Corydoras Catfish

Fish that are NOT for beginners:
Mollies
Glass Catfish
Glass fish
Any dyed fish (prolly die on ya)
Discus
Rasbora (gets ich VERY easy)
Marbled Hatchetfish

I've never noticed any of my fish to be hardy or just plain hard to keep :dunno:
I would say any fish you haven't researched is a bad choice ;)

You forgot bettas! Although they don't do well with fin-nippers, bettas are just about indestructible!
Ummm... no I didn't...

Also clown loaches, which get ich even MORE easily than rasboras, not to mention are harder to treat.
