2 days ago I started adding in some liquid plant fert to our 28 gallon tank that I'm fishless cycling.
Cycle has been going great. Ammonia reading of 3-5 and max Nitrite readings go to 0 by 24hrs so it's all going very well.
However, this morning, I just did a test, Nitrite is at 0.. but ammonia is reading at about 2.
I tested the nitrate as well and it's still redder than ever (80+)... so was wondering if the liquid plant food would be causing a false ammonia reading perhaps?
It's Nutrafin iron enriched blahblah something or other plant food.

The ferts shouldn't have any effect on the ammonia levels or at least I've never used any that did.

Think a water change would help whatever is causing this to happen? If so, about how much should I change?
I just don't want anything to happen to this cycle.

It could help but I don't know how much. The bacteria should clear the ammonia out pretty quickly though. I wouldn't use any more of the ferts until after the cycle. You might want to add some of the ferts to a bucket of water and test to see if it causes the ammonia to go up in it.

Yeah that's a good idea.
I'll try that.
Think I'm just going to add in some regular ammonia and see what happens.
Hoping it's just a false reading though.. Lord it would suck if something bad happened to this cycle!!

Thanks rdd!!
