I have several attractive pieces of limestone which I would love to use in one of my tanks. It's not the light colored stuff shown in the pinned rock article. It comes from the lake I live near (I hand picked these myself!) and is dark gray - but according to lake stats -- it is limestone and it's what the lake is mostly made of up.

I did the vinegar test and there's almost no fizz. When the vinegar gets in the cracks, it bubbles just a little.

I'm wondering if I use one piece of it (5 inches by 8 inches by 1 inch thick) would that impact the pH of the tank. I really do not want my pH to be any higher than what it is.

Can just one piece of rock change the pH?

It will have an effect for sure
it might be very little

one thing you can try is when you do your next water change, put the rock in your old tank water for a week or so and check the pH

that'sll give you an idea

Agree with yvez...if it fizzles, it's gonna leach calcium carb out. Even if it's just a little, still don't know what the amount coming out will be. Testing it first is a good idea. SH
