My water is quite hard, so I get a lot of that chalky, white limescale(?) buildup along my filter. Is it bad to just fill the water back up and ignore the buildup? Better yet, will this harm the tank if it gets into the water?
It should be okay; I know from experience that is virtually impossible to get all of it off sometimes (although try vinegar and a good scrub pad. That's what I've had the most luck with) and it doesn't seem to harm the tank. If it did, I'd be in trouble!
I have this problem as well.
I have unused toothbrushes for my 10gal and my 28 just to get it off of everything... well and to scrub off algae that builds up on the decor hehe.
It's never harmed my fish though. It dirties up the water like crazy if it flakes off, but it's never harmed my fish
