My tank's hood has space for two lights. I've got two lights to put in, one sun-glo and one power glo. Which one should I put at the front and which at the back? Or doesn't it really matter? I really haven't got a clue here as this is my first tank.
Any help would be appreciated :)
Thanx
Dani

I'm not familiar with them but if you know one is for the plants put that one at the back and if one shows up colours like reds and blues put that at the front to bring the colous of your fish out

I can see thegnu's reasoning - but I'd put the one that's better for the plants at the front - because you tend to put the shortest plants there and they will need the most light.

Ask a question here - and you'll often get two different opinions

I have a very similar set up. Ive got the Fluval due deep 600 which came with the sun-glo and I think the aqua glo. Are you sure you have the power glo?

I only ask as the power glo promotes coral and thus I would have thought would have been more used in marine.

Acording to the guide sun -glo is general aquarium lighting and aqua glo promotes fish colour and plant growth. I decided to go for the general purpose at the front and the aqua glo at the back. Im really not sure what way is best although I think the bulb at the front appears to get more action than the one at the back and I think the aqua glo sounds better - so I may swap.

Thanx for the responses. Boxes say the sun-glo one is full sun spectrum, natural white light and the power-glo is total illumination for living corals, marine algae and freshwater plants, high intensity. I thought to put the sun-glo at the front but the reasoning you give majjie makes alot of sense. Guess I'll wait for a few more replies and see what others have to say before deciding.
Thanx guys

Miniman, its definatly the power glo I've got, but I did buy the tank of someone who was planning on doing a marine tank but decided on a different one after buying this. It does state freshwater plants on it as well so I guess it'll do the same job.

I use Powerglo's in my freshwater tanks - for growing plants. They're supposed to be less yellow looking than the Sunglo and the Floraglo.

I have a flora glow at the back and the power glo at the front. But this suits where the majority of my plants are, and i like how the powerglo brings out the colour of my fish at the front.. (similar reply to the first reply, but as the next reply says, it may depend on the plant positioning, although, the power glo is still ok for plants, but in my case the flora glow is just better with more red in the spectrum)..

Thanx for all the replies people. It looks like it down to personal preference really and maybe what plants I get in the end. Once I get my background I'll have a play with them and see what looks best. I can always change them in the future.
Thanx again
Dani

I'd wait 2-3 weeks then see how your plants are doing. If you're happy with the plant growth, then the tubes are the right way round!.

yeah it depends totally on which plants you use and how you aquascape the tank

Cheers vinylman and miss wiggle. I was kinda starting to think that myself. God knows when I'll actually get plants in my tank as its been sat in our front room since the beginning of october and still nothing has been done with it lol Given me plenty of time to read up on things though. Hopefully have water in it by the end of this weekend :)
Thanx
Dani
