Iv seen a white LED spotlight that i want for my tank but dont really know much about them as in how long can i keep it on without the main tank light without getting algae, if it even increases the growth anyway? or if itsdamages the fish?

How strong is it? What is the emission spectrum?

What's your objective? Having it on in the evening/night so you can still see what's going on?

I run a string of 6 blue moonlight LEDs 24/7 and I don't have an algae problem.

I'd think you might want to be careful it's not that strong that it removes the rest period of a simulated night.

Do u use the 6 LEDs as your main light source? Whats the power from all of your lights?

I have 1 * 15W 4ft tube, and 1*25W 4ft tube as my main light sources (I think that's right, the one is off a tank I had for years, the other from, let's say recreational cultivation. I'll check the power ratings later because I'm not sure).

One of these is a growlux bulb, the other a tropical bulb. These run from 15:00 to 24:00 daily on a timer.

Then I have a strip of 6 moonlight LEDs:

That are on 24 hours a day. In the daytime you cannot see them, in the night they cast a blue hue, that is just enough to see your nocturnal fish if your eyes are acclimatised to the light. They certainly make no contribution to algae, since I have hardly any algae at all. Haven't had to clean the glass in 6 months.

If you would like any advice on your situation though, not that I'm an expert, perhaps you could answer my questions? The planted aquaria section might be the best place to ask about ligths, those guys go crazy for it.
