Well i have my tank lights on for around 12hrs aday for my plants is this too much? Should i cut it down to 10hrs?

Cheers, adam.

In my Heavily planted Live-Bearer tank (its a 36x12x18 inch) I usually turn the lights on at about 10am and they go off at about mid-night, so they probably on for about 14 hours per day!!!

I havent "designed" it this way, thats just the way it is with this tank, i have 3x tubes in it as well.

I think they key is algae, i dont have any algae issues despite the lights being on 14 hrs per day. I am probably more concerned about my electricity bill than anything else!!!

In my tanks where i dont have plants, to basically save money and reduce algae, i will turn the lights on only for 4-5 hours each evening

Cheers, youve helped alot. :)
Also my wisteria seems to be growing what looks like roots on the upper stems where the 'leaves' are, is this normal? What is it (slightly green in colour).

That is just how that plant propagates. It forms little plantlets on it's leaves.

Good, cheers. They must be doing well ive only had them for around a week.

Since you only them for a week, they are probably thriving on the nutrients from the store and whatever nutrients were in the tank. Eventually, the plants will deplete the nutrients required, so the lighting will be way too much. Eventually, the only thing that can utilize the long lights with little nutrients would be the algae.
